COGNITIVE BARRIERS AND SENSUAL LANGUAGE: RECLAIMING WOMEN'S EXPRESSIVE AGENCY

Abstract

Language leaves a deep legacy by shaping a culture's identity and recording the history of humanity's desire to communicate effectively. It allows a person to express themselves and to manage their experience in the world, as well as others' expectations of them. Language is used to convey messages and to illustrate social complexities and cultural values. It is the arena of stories, metaphors, history, philosophy, ideology, and above all, what life is like for each person. The issue arises when any particular group, community, or gender is denied the right to express themselves, even when it is ethically and emotionally significant. History tells us that such suppression results in vulnerability, which weakens an individual's capacity for free thinking and free expression. In this perspective article, we will discuss the social limitations women face in Pakistan and how the cultural identity of the society has been affected.
